Youie’s Washed Out but T.N.T. Rocks Dec 1 2011

Well I can’t believe no one has posted a ride in over 12 months, but here goes.

Frankie and I headed to Youie’s this morning knowing Kurrajong was closed due to storms on the weekend, but thought Stockyards was open. WRONG! Carpark locked and signs up saying closed until further notice.

So we decided to head to TNT to see what we could see see see, and all that we could see see see was awesome riding conditions!

Someone has been doing some work in there, and it was dry but not dusty. Close to the best conditions I can remember in there. What rain there has been seems to have filled a lot of holes and gaps between rocks, it was sweet. Still rocky but awesome.

There is a lot of young growth starting to intrude on the trail, we should head out there to do some pruning. It wouldn’t take long.

Daisy Hill, Queensland 20 Sept 2010

Thought I should add to our rides with one up here in Qld.  Daisy Hill is also known by some as Easy Hill or Lazy Hill as it’s not much of a challenge but is great fun and close to Brisbane and would be similar to Yarra Trails down home.  It has been my regular Sunday morning ride with the LBS and a few Tuesday night rides now.  As is the norm it has it’s own local trail names including Possum Box, Chocolate Budda, Stone Henge, Nirvana, Second Coming and  Tunnel of Love.

The trails all link up with a number of access trails and can be ridden in both directions and in different orders which helps mix it up a bit.  It is predominantly hard pack clay, with some rocky out crops and sandy sections and is maintained by local parks authority with volunteer help.

After about 10 rides there I can now happily go there and have  some fun on my own and still find my way back to the car at the end!  At night the Cane toads dominate the trail along with the Golden Orb spiders that like to set up house across the trails and test your brakes out as you fly around a corner. Even saw a Red Belly Balck snake one night who wasn’t too happy to see us and reared up on it’s tail to let us know it.  The Cane Toads are bloody unreal, they barely move out of the way and when you run over them (reckon I got 20 on the ride below, saw about 100) they make a pop noise as their guts pops out their mouth, then they suck it back in and hop away!!!!

With the help of my new toy (GARMIN 500) here is my latest ride, on my own in very wet conditions.  Water was gently running down most trails, but as it is so hard packed the grip was still sensational.  Some corners felt more like riding a jet ski than a bike with the amount of water being thrown up from the front wheel.
